Weekend Round-up

Crescent 1s travelled to Aberfeldy, which some call the exotic part of Scotland, for their third match of the season against Breadalbane Cricket Club. The weather proved to be surprisingly pleasant, with temperatures ranging from 20 to 22 degrees and plenty of sunshine.

Crescent started well by choosing to bowl first, dismissing the opponents for 109 runs in 38 overs. Ayush took four wickets, while Kamal contributed with three wickets.

However, things went differently for Crescent during their batting innings. Wickets fell rapidly like domino, and Breadalbane stayed in the game despite the low scoring. With only six runs left to chase on the last wicket and 22 overs remaining,
Kamran and Ayush felt the pressure but managed to scrape through 5 runs—unfortunately, a well-executed spell from a Breadalbane bowler eventually caught and bowled Kamran. The match ended in a draw, with both teams earning 14 points each. It was not the desired outcome for Crescent 1s, especially after the long 2.5-hour drive each way. However, the team remains optimistic and looks forward to future matches.

In another match, Crescent’s team in Aberdeen Grade 1 faced off against Abergreen (previously known as SIYAPA) at Harlaw. Once again, it was a low-scoring game, with Crescent scoring 136 runs before being all out. Baba displayed solid defensive batting skills and formed a good partnership with Shubham. A similar scenario played out between Anjum and Jaimin in the lower order.

Crescent’s bowling department was the key to their success in this match. Anjum and Jaimin provided an excellent start in the opening spell, followed by two quick wickets from Dave in his first two overs, shifting the momentum in Crescent’s favour. After that, Zayd delivered an exceptional bowling spell, taking three wickets, while Shubham, a promising all-rounder for Crescent, showcased his skills with figures of 5-3-2-2. Many considered his performance a treat to watch. Anjum, known for his dependability, also contributed by taking a couple of wickets.

Crescent 2nd emerged victorious in the game, winning by 20 odd runs. This victory highlighted the team’s never-give-up attitude, particularly against the strong Abergreeners.

Overall, it was a satisfactory day for Crescent, with a win and a draw. The team demonstrated their resilience and determination, showing that it was not a bad day in the office.
